Abaco’s Xmas Arrivals Grow 5% in 2009

PRELIMINARY data shows Abaco’s Christmas holiday arrivals were up 5 per cent year-over-year, the minister of tourism and aviation said yesterday, while a large resort on the island was “pleasantly surprised” by bookings during the season.

Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace told Tribune Business that increased airlift into the country’s fastest-developing economy has certainly “paid off dividends” during the Christmas season…

Meanwhile, Abaco residents and hotel owners saw a better Christmas than planned. General Manager of the Abaco Beach Resort, Bob Kramm, said their December was “over forecast” and “way up over last year”…

The hotel expects an overbooked band schedule and increase in boat arrivals this month.

Mr Vanderpool-Wallace said that though airlift to the Bahamas had increased, the turn around in business might not be felt until confidence in the market is back up.

“We’re optimistic of seeing a slight increase in business month-over-month,” he said.
